Translation & Localization

At the very core of the services that I offer are high quality translation and localization from English into Bulgarian. This means I can deliver a consistent, reliable translation of most kinds of textual content you could request. That includes websites, software, user instructions, manuals and guides, legal disclaimers, policies and agreements, correspondence, questionnaires, articles, research, and almost anything else you could throw my way. The “localization” part means I make sure that a translated text, product or service is properly adapted to the specifics of the Bulgarian language, culture, and market, which makes it both efficient and appealing to the reader.

What is quality translation and why is it important?

Genuine translation is much more than replacing words in one language with words in another. It involves completely assimilating the concept that the source text transmits, and arranging words in the target language in a manner that delivers the concept with the same meaning. In addition, proper translation should be a beacon of good grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, especially in an environment where texting is making language rules a mysterious thing of the past for many users.

That is why machine translation services such as Google Translate will not be able to go anywhere near the quality of a real professional translator in the near future. While those services can sometimes do a mildly decent job of replacing phrases with similar phrases in a different language, they cannot go the extra mile and take in the entire meaning of the source, including nuances of language and style, and recreate it flawlessly in another language.

That is how high-quality translation is the tool that allows the world’s cultures to communicate with each other in a meaningful way. It also allows great minds all over the world to work together, and thus enables scientific and technological progress. Without the ability to understand and build on other people’s and nations’ achievements, we would still be stuck somewhere in a world of tribes, fighting with each other.

What is ‘localization’ and what does it do?

While ‘localization’ may look like the exact opposite of ‘globalization’, it is actually a part of it. Localization involves being closely familiar with a country or region’s specifics in culture, language, and communication, and being able to re-shape a product (like a software application, user interface, user guide, website, et cetera) in a way that would feel ‘native’ to that country or region’s market and population. In a simpler definition, localization makes sure a new product feels “at home” in a specific country or region.
